Condoms in the UAE: what a pack costs and what to check

Where condoms are sold in the UAE, what a pack actually costs, how to read the sizing on the box, and why storing them in a car in summer is the fastest way to ruin them.

Where they are sold

Condoms are legal and widely available in the UAE: supermarkets, pharmacies, and delivery apps including noon. You do not need a specialist store, and nobody behind a pharmacy counter is going to make it awkward.

If you are ordering online with a grocery delivery app, they usually arrive in the same bag as everything else.

What a pack costs

Prices run from roughly AED 25 for a basic ten-pack in a supermarket to AED 90 or more for branded ultra-thin packs of twelve.

The spread is mostly brand and thickness, not quality — all condoms sold legally in the UAE meet the same safety standard.

Reading the box

  • Nominal width is the number that matters for fit — usually 52–56 mm. It is printed on the back, not the front.
  • Thickness in millimetres. Ultra-thin is usually around 0.05 mm.
  • Lubricant type. Most are silicone-lubricated, which is fine — it is on the outside only.
  • Expiry date. Check it. A pack that has been on a shelf for years is a pack to leave.

The storage problem in this climate

A car glovebox in a UAE summer can exceed 60°C. Latex degrades at that temperature, and a condom that has been through a summer in a car should not be used even if the date says it is fine.

Keep them somewhere cool and dry — a bedroom drawer, not a bathroom cabinet and definitely not a car.

Lubricant compatibility

Water-based lubricant is safe with latex. Oil-based lubricant — including baby oil, massage oil and Vaseline — degrades latex and causes failures.

If you are adding lubricant, use water-based. This is the single most common mistake with condoms and it is entirely avoidable.
