Lubricant in the UAE: which type to buy and why it matters
Water-based, silicone or oil — what each one is for, which toys and condoms each one is safe with, where lubricant is sold in the UAE, and how to store it in the heat.
Water-based: the safe default
Safe with silicone, TPE, ABS and metal, and safe with latex condoms. There is no combination in this shop it is incompatible with, which is why it is the recommendation for anyone who is not sure.
The trade-off: it absorbs, so it needs reapplying. That is normal, not a defect.
Silicone-based: longer lasting, with one hard rule
Lasts much longer and does not need reapplying as often. It is also not safe with silicone toys — it degrades the surface over time, leaving it tacky and eventually damaged.
Safe with TPE, ABS, metal and condoms. If you use it, keep it away from silicone.
Oil-based: mostly a condom problem
Oil degrades latex. That includes baby oil, coconut oil, massage oil and petroleum jelly. If a condom is involved, oil-based lubricant is the wrong choice regardless of anything else.
It is also difficult to wash off silicone and TPE, which makes it a poor fit for toys in general.
Where to buy it in the UAE
Water-based lubricant is sold in pharmacies and supermarkets, usually in small tubes. That is fine for trying it out.
If you use it regularly, the larger bottles are much better value per millilitre — a 200 ml bottle costs roughly twice a 60 ml tube but holds more than three times as much.
Storing it here
Heat separates and degrades lubricant. A bathroom windowsill or a car is the worst place for it; a cupboard is fine.
Check the expiry date. Water-based lubricant that has separated should be replaced rather than shaken and used.
