Vibration versus movement: the difference that decides what you buy
Most devices vibrate. Some also rotate, telescope, tap or create suction. Here is what each one actually does, what it costs, and which one suits the way you intend to use it.
Vibration
The baseline. A small motor spins an off-centre weight, the whole device buzzes, and the intensity is set by how fast that weight spins. Every vibrating product works this way, including the cheapest ones.
Vibration spreads. That is its advantage on the outside of the body and its limitation inside — the sensation is diffuse rather than directed.
Suction
A small chamber over the surface, with a diaphragm pulling air in and out at speed. It produces a pulsing pressure rather than a buzz, and the sensation is more focused than vibration at the same intensity.
On the products we stock, suction heads are the ones described as drawing or pulsing. Cheaper suction devices pulse less sharply — you get the shape of the sensation without the precision.
Rotation and telescoping
Rotation turns the shaft or the head. Telescoping extends and retracts it lengthwise. Both need a second motor and a mechanism, which is why devices with either one start around AED 280 and climb fast.
They are also the loudest things in the catalogue. A device that moves has a mechanical sound, and no amount of marketing changes the physics.
Tapping
A tapping motor strikes a small pad against the surface at high frequency — closer to a repeated tap than a buzz. It splits opinion more than any other mechanism: people tend to either find it the most effective thing they have used or find it odd.
Because it is a moving part, it costs more than plain vibration and less than a shaft that telescopes.
What this means when you are choosing
- Want quiet? Vibration or suction. Avoid anything described as rotating, telescopic or thrusting.
- Want the cheapest thing that works? Plain vibration, around AED 180–260.
- Want something that moves without you moving it? You are starting at AED 280 and it is not silent.
- Not sure yet? Buy the cheapest version of the mechanism you are curious about, not the most expensive one. The mechanism, not the finish, is what you are testing.

Questions
Is more modes always better? +
No. Modes are cheap to add and mostly get used on the two settings people like. Motor type matters far more than mode count.
Why is a telescopic device so much louder? +
It has a motor driving a mechanism rather than a weight. Mechanical movement makes mechanical noise.
